The UNHCR recently published an article on its website (www.unhcr.org) telling the story of two Syrian refugees who had to leave their home and farms in Syria behind but who through Social Farming, are now getting an opportunity to farm again in Claremorris, Co. Mayo. The article highlights the potentially valuable role of Social Farming in enabling refugees to participate in and contribute to community and rural life and in the case of those who were farmers, to get back to the land and to where they feel they belong. Social Farming Ireland have already worked with refugees in Limerick as well as with the men whose story is told in this article and hope to expand this area of activity in the future.
